The Palestinian uprising isn’t over and we’re going to keep up this momentum and continue pressuring for change. Families in Sheikh Jarrah are still waiting to hear from Israeli colonial courts next month on whether settlers will take their homes, Gaza is being heavily bombarded with air strikes, and Palestinian protests are occurring from Ramallah to Haifa. On Saturday, May 22, we will hold a vigil and then a rally. The vigil will begin at 6 PM at the Vancouver Art Gallery, where we will commemorate the lives of those recently killed by Israeli violence in Gaza, Haifa, Jerusalem, Hebron and other Palestinian cities. We will have a few speakers, and provide candles, flowers, and the names and pictures of those killed. Following the vigil, we will be marching to the U.S Consulate with a list of demands for both Canada and the US as well as a call to action. Stay tuned for program details. The route for the march will also be published here so you can follow it.
(Be sure to bring your mask and keffiyeh or Palestinian scarf and observe appropriate physical distancing.)

Vancouver comes out for Palestine in massive rally!

Vancouver’s #Nabka73 event started as a rally of one thousand at CBC Plaza and then marched through the downtown core, where some estimates say it swelled to over two thousand. It was a historic event for Vancouver, both in numbers, in diversity and in spirit. Check out our photo highlights below to see how Palestinians everywhere are making history.

May 15 marks 73 years of Palestinian dispossession and attempts to erase Palestine from the map of the world. It also marks decades of Palestinian resistance and refusal to accept Israeli settler colonialism and occupation.
Lets hold the Palestinian flag high in Vancouver; and show CBC that Palestine does indeed exist, contrary to its biased and racist language guide.
Lets also tell the Canadian government that their complicity in Israeli war crimes must end!

Boycott TEVA, Defend the Right to Boycott

On March 16, CPA activists joined with BDS Vancouver – Coast Salish Territories and Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network to deliver a message to the consulate of France in Vancouver and to show solidarity with Olivia Zémor! Olivia is being sued by the Israeli pharmaceutical giant, TEVA, and is charged with calling for a boycott of the company. The verdict in her trial is expected in mid-May. Background info here:

Mohammed El-Halabi is the former director of World Vision in Gaza. A Palestinian “humanitarian hero,” Mohammed El-Halabi, 42, was detained by Israel in 2016. In a widely promoted press campaign, El-Halabi was accused by Israeli officials of financing Hamas using funds from the charity. However, audits by World Vision and the Australian government found not only that there was no misuse of funds but that, further, the Israeli charges were fundamentally impossible — World Vision’s budget over multiple years never reached the sums of money cited by Israeli officials.

On March 3, 2021, Mohammed El-Halabi will face his 156th court hearing. All of his hearings have taken place behind closed doors, and UN experts noted that el-Halabi’s “arrest, interrogation and trial is not worthy of a democratic state.” He refused a plea bargain after being warned by the judge in his case that he will likely be convicted and that, “You’ve read the numbers and the statistics,” the judge told el-Halabi, according to ABC. “You know how these issues are handled.” The plea bargain offer would have seen him imprisoned for three years. He has now been imprisoned without conviction for four and one-half years.

Mohammed El-Halabi is a protected person under international humanitarian law, yet he has been subjected to gross violations of his fundamental rights. Mohammed El-Halabi’s case has been used to intimidate international NGOs away from working in Gaza, further tightening the siege on over 2 million people living under daily Israeli siege, occupation and ongoing bombing raids — most of them refugees denied their right to return to their original homes and lands in Palestine.
