Celebrating the Art and Legacy of Betty Beeching

August 7, 2-5 pm, Trout Lake Community Centre

Betty Beeching, a long-time CPA member, passed away last summer. She and her late husband John were stalwarts of Palestinian activism for many decades, and their East Vancouver living room was the hub of meetings and receptions. If you are in East Vancouver on Aug. 7, please drop by and join us to celebrate Betty’s life and legacy, and see the original artwork done by both of them.

BC Govt: Pull Israeli Apartheid Wines

On June 28, Vancouver activists carried out another picket to promote the “Tell BC Govt to Pull Israeli Apartheid Wines” campaign. Hundreds of leaflets were distributed outside a BC liquor store and following that, the action moved to the office of MLA Melanie Mark. Several of her constituents were part of the picket and their concerns are being consistently sidelined by her office, despite her promise to meet with them.

Vancouver’s anti-apartheid stickering squad has also been active, visiting several stores in the month of June to bring home the message that profiting off Israeli apartheid is fundamentally wrong.

Our message to the BC Govt and MLAs about their racist double standards was met with “locked doors and an intercom” and an “unwillingness…to dialogue with grassroots people standing up for social justice and Palestinian rights in the community.” https://t.co/0i5ATtS7bf” / Twitter

June 28 Picket: No to Israeli Apartheid Wines!

BC Liquor Store, 1520 Commercial Dr., Vancouver

Join local Palestinian solidarity groups to hand out leaflets, get signatures on our action network letter, and promote the “Tell BC Govt to Pull Israeli Apartheid Wines” campaign.

Major international and Israeli human right groups, including Amnesty International, have determined that Israel is committing the crime of apartheid. Yet the BC government insists to carry Israeli wines in publicly owned BC liquor stores, even though most are linked to the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise.
The wines in question are either from the Golan Heights Winery and its joint venture the Galil Winery; or from the Israeli Teperberg Winery, which proudly displays a map on its website showing vineyards in occupied Palestinian territory.

Photo Gallery from #Nakba74 Actions in Vancouver, Victoria

On May 15, activists in BC came out to commemorate #Nakba74 and demand justice for Palestine. In Vancouver, several hundred people attended a rally at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Presentations included Solidarity Notes Choir; Columpa Bobb reading poetry for her late mom, indigenous poet Lee Maracle; and several speakers, including Palestinian-Canadian writer and journalist Khaled Barakat. The crowd then marched to the U.S. consulate. Victoria activists marked #Nakba74 with several banner drops on a busy highway overpass.
