Canada Palestine Association CPA is outraged by the recent arrest of Ahmad Hassan Hajahmad from Toronto, who has fraudulently charged with “Participating in or Contributing to Activities of a Terrorist Group”.
This is the latest heavy-handed manoeuvre by the police services in one of Canada’s major cities. We have witnessed this escalating trend in the last 1000+ days as Palestinians and their supporters have insisted on demanding accountability for Israeli war crimes. Many activists have faced such spurious charges only to have them later disappear; but the whole point of such tactics is to silence and chill pro-Palestine advocacy.
Challenging injustice and calling out genocide is and will always remain a fundamental right that we will neither shy away from nor abandon. A right that the repressive police and security services as well as the Zionist lobby aim to deny the Palestinian community and its supporters.
As individuals who killed Palestinian and Lebanese civilians during service with the Israeli military walk free on our streets and are even welcomed on college campuses, those opposing genocide are the ones being targeted. Canada’s bogus “terrorist list” sets the foundation for this hypocrisy, a hypocrisy that has been guided for decades by Zionist groups.
CPA calls for the charges to be dropped against Ahmad and for the biased and racist behaviour of the Toronto Police Services to be investigated. We stand with all those defending the Palestinian right to speak, and we will not be silenced!
