In order to break the illegal siege, in August 2008, the Free Gaza Movement sent international boats to land in the port of Gaza, the first in 41 years. Freedom Sailors tells the story of 44 passengers on two dilapidated boats that sailed to Gaza and breached Israel’s illegal blockade. Hear co-editor Bill Dienst launch Freedom Sailors in Vancouver, and learn more about the Canadian Boat to Gaza’s new project, Gaza’s Ark. Bill was on board the LIBERTY on August 23, 2008 when it sailed into Gaza Port.

“A riveting account of one of the great moments in the history of non-violent resistance: breaking the criminal and sadistic siege of Gaza…” – Noam Chomsky, Ph.D. – Professor, MIT

“Freedom Sailors is a powerful record of the political and humanitarian activity of some of the best humans we are ever likely to meet. – Alice Walker, Earthling poet, writer and activist.

Each person will have a placard with the name of a Palestinian killed in the recent Israeli attacks. We will begin by lining Georgia St. and then move towards Granville St., proceeding one person at a time as the name of the Palestinian killed is read out.

We insist that each Palestinian and their families, who were robbed of the lives of their loved ones, deserve to be recognized, not just politically, but as individual humans. Their deaths are not in vain. The occupation will end and justice will be won but only with broad support for the Palestinian resistance. Report and pictures.

While Israel’s bombing attacks have so far killed over 143 Palestinians in the occupied, besieged Gaza Strip, the Israeli Deputy Ambassador to Canada, Eliaz Luf, is coming to Vancouver in order to promote, defend and support Israeli war crimes. He will be joined by Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, expressing the Canadian Government’s support for Israeli war crimes.

Israel is besieging a people and continuing an illegal military occupation, while strafing civilians with hundreds of airstrikes. Since November 14 the Israeli military has continuously attacked Gaza with drones, Apache helicopters, F-16 fighter jets, naval vessels and artillery. On the seventh day of this attack the death toll in Gaza rises to over 143 with over 800 injured. While calls have arisen around the world for a military embargo of Israel, Canada’s government has not only failed to condemn the attacks, but instead has affirmed that it “stands with Israel” as the Israeli army continues its deadly campaign against Palestinians in Gaza.

Kenney has been one of the Harper Government’s loudest cheerleaders for Israel while ramping up deportations and anti-migrant legislation targeting migrants and refugees; he has also been central in attacks on Arab and Palestinian community organizations in Canada.

COME OUT WEDNESDAY TO TELL ELIAZ LUF THAT WAR CRIMINALS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES ARE NOT WELCOME HERE! TELL JASON KENNEY THAT HE DOES NOT SPEAK FOR US!

UBC – Unceded Musqueam territories

Since Wednesday, November 14, Israel has been brutally bombarding Gaza. Over 1300 places have been bombed. More than 100 Palestinians have died, over 600 are injured, and the death toll is rising rapidly. Israel has called on 75,000 reservists and is gathering its tanks and forces at the border to prepare for a ground incursion, which could take place in as little as 36 hours according to the ultimatum issued by the Israeli government.

Join us on unceded Musqueam land for a panel discussion and critical dialogue to address the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza, global solidarity movements, and resistance against colonialism and occupation. Our speakers include Hanna Kawas, the chair of Canada Palestine Association and host of Voice of Palestine. He will discuss international complicity in the attacks and siege on Gaza, and the Canadian role in particular. Khaled Barakat is a Palestinian writer and community activist. He will discuss the history of resistance and struggle in Gaza. This event will be facilitated by Razan Abu-Remaileh, a Palestinian activist and student who is taking First Nations Studies and Women’s Studies at UBC. She will make connections between Indigenous struggles in Canada and Palestine.
